This job requires me to work with groups of children ranging in age from 7– 17 years old and ranging in ability from beginners to international players. This role requires the ability to organise and coordinate large groups of people using good communication skills, create and adapt appropriate session plans to meet the needs of each individual and the ability to adapt to different working environments and different groups of people. I have to be a positive influence and role model for the athletes. I also need be enthusiastic and approachable for the players to get the best out of the session. I am trusted to handle cash to pay for sessions, document the players attendance, designate and collect consent forms and be alert to any potential medical requirements. This job allows me to showcase my enthusiasm and passion for sport to inspire the children I work with and motivate them to work towards the best versions of themselves.

In this role, I work as a coach for the U13 Glasgow and North Strathclyde squad as part of Badminton Scotland’s performance pathway. The overall targets that we set are focused on success at Olympics and Commonwealth Games at Senior level; with the targets for the junior programme centred on the development of athletes towards these goals. My role as coach is to best prepare these young athletes for the demands of elite performance sport and to ensure they receive high quality training. My role involves supporting each athlete to be the best they can be, pushing them to achieve their individual goals while also ensuring we develop a strong team culture within the squads.

I work at PHASTAR as a statistician on clinical trials: producing and validating datasets and outputs to excellent quality whilst adhering to deliverable timelines. I work within a reporting team environment, being responsible for statistical aspects of reporting study results. In my role I have been involved in the following tasks:• Program and validate non-complex datasets according to given specifications• Program and validate non-complex efficacy outputs and non-efficacy tables, listings and figures according to the SAP, given specifications and pertinent study documentation• Create listings and simple summary mock shells under supervision• Manage day-to-day workload to ensure project deliverables are met• Awareness of CDISC standards• Prioritise quality in all activities undertaken, by ensuring the principles in the PHASTAR checklist are followed rigorously, and carefully performing self QC of own work• Implement Good Clinical Practice and adhere to regulatory requirements at all times

This job gave me the ability to deal with customers over the phone and in the shop, work in a pressurised fast paced environment and work as part of a team. These tasks allowed me to develop strong interpersonal skills and communication all whilst working under the time pressure of being part of a fast food chain. I enjoyed working with people in this role and learned how to deal with any issues that arose in a calm and professional manner.

The CashBack programme provides children in deprived areas the chance to get out and enjoy sports. This job was particularly challenging as I had to think on my feet and take prompt action to transform a range of inadequate spaces into badminton courts in a limited time frame. This was a particularly rewarding job as it allowed me to give back to people who had not received the same amount of support as I have through sport.
