• Taught a self-contained Special Day Class of 1st – 3rd Grade students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Speech and Language Impairment, Other Health Impairment (OHI), Intellectual Disabilities, and Emotional Disturbance. • Planned and taught lessons in all academic areas across three grade levels designed to help students meet their IEP goals; modified general education curriculum for three grade levels to meet students’ needs; implemented all accommodations and modifications in the classroom. • Wrote IEPs and academic reports for students’ triennial and annual IEPs; assessed students using the Woodcock Johnson for triennial IEPs along with completing a variety of formative and summative assessments, observations, and family interviews, in order to prepare comprehensive academic reports. • Completed Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Non-Violent Intervention training provided by OUSD Special Education in order to learn best practices for identifying, preventing, and de-escalating crises.

Supported special education students, mostly students with ASD, in adapting and thriving in the general education classroom. Ensured that students with ASD were able to succeed socially and academically. Collaborated with general education teachers, school psychologist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, and administrators. Organized and held IEP meetings, both remotely and in person.

Teamed with community partners such as Autonomous Tenants Union (ATU), Enlace, Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP), and Blocks Together to take on housing and family law cases. Represented ATU tenants in eviction cases involving eviction from building purchased by private developer. Managed SWOP clinic.• Delivered public speeches/addresses at International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers in English and Spanish.• Sat on panel at University of Chicago Law School on violence against transgender women of color.

Represented clients at Section 8 voucher termination hearings, as well as in eviction court. Provided Spanish translations and communicated with Spanish-speaking clients for attorneys and social workers.• Taught class on housing rights to groups of 20 to 90 women at Cook County Department of Corrections. Instructed on issues that included fair housing law, securing housing with criminal record, evictions, and Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance.• Provided legal support for Chicago Legal Advocacy for Incarcerated Mothers Program, with cases involving guardianship, child custody, divorce, and other family law matters. Visited Logan Correctional Facility to conduct intakes.

Represented client seeking asylum in hearing and assisted with preparation of support documentation in intern position funded by Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago. Prepared hearing materials, including direct examinations, cross examinations, and opening / closing statements. Prepared client and witnesses for hearing.• Collaborated with local organizations to build awareness of immigrant rights issues in LGBT community to strengthen alliance between immigrant-rights advocates and LGBT-rights advocates.

• Assisted clients in obtaining CPOs (Civil Protection Orders) through gathering evidence (police reports, witnesses, etc.), drafting direct examinations, cross examinations, and closing arguments, and preparing clients to testify.• Assisted clients at the Child Support Resource Center, an office in the Child Support Services Division of D.C. Superior Court that offers independent legal support to low-income clients in child support cases; ensured that all clients met eligibility guidelines; helped with child custody cases.• Conducted research and prepared briefs and legal memoranda in the area of family law; legal issues included the effect of the recent Supreme Court decision (Elonis v. U.S.) on domestic violence threats cases in the District of Columbia.

• Prepared petitions for writs of certiorari in cases related to a multitude of issues, including the Armed Career Criminal Act (ACCA) and the Confrontation Clause; assisted in preparation of amicus briefs and merits briefs, including a supplemental brief in the recently decided case, Johnson v. United States (argued that the residual clause in the ACCA was unconstitutionally vague, ultimately the deciding issue in Johnson v. United States). • Conducted circuit monitoring of the Second Circuit, the Tenth Circuit, and several state courts, looking for circuit splits, cases involving indigent criminal defendants, and other cases potentially appropriate for certiorari petitions.

• Interviewed applicants to Northwestern University School of Law.

• Assisted the attorney managing the Medical-Legal Partnership, a collaboration between the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center’s Children’s Health Center and Bay Area Legal Aid. • Helped build cases from the ground-up in the areas of housing, public benefits, immigration, and family law. • Interviewed clients, prepared clients for trial, and attended informal and administrative hearings both to represent clients and to assist self-represented litigants; drafted briefs and other legal memoranda.

• Completed state-mandated 40-hour domestic violence training.• Answered the 24-hour crisis line, providing survivors with support, safety planning, and shelter referrals; staffed children's program.

• Assisted in electronic conversion and compilation of court documents into Law Prediscovery database.• Reformatted electronic files to be used by attorneys in court.• Answered constituents’ questions and concerns and directed them to the proper divisions.
