When I was a kid, I was convinced that Aslan from Narnia, was real. He was real and he lived in Aslan's Country, which I would get to see one day. I should point out that I also believed there was a Milk Fairy, who delivered the milk, and a Biscuit Fairy, who rewarded good children with an extra layer of biscuits in the biscuit tin. Anyway! Finally, one day my mum sat me down and explained that he wasn't a real lion, that CS Lewis had created him for the Narnia stories. Far from being totally crestfallen, I was blown away. How can a man use language to create something that I found so real. I wanted to be able to do this. This is how, from a young age, I became captivated by the power of language. It was this fascination that lead my to study English, and then to build a career around writing, language and communication.
