Caitlyn is a cisgender, curvy white, neurodivergent female with lived experience with Anorexia Nervosa and Orthorexia Nervosa who has been recovered for over a decade. Her body story also includes lived experience as an only child with visible and invisible disabilities and whose body changes throughout life have been stigmatized by mainstream healthcare. She grew up in a primarily middle class, European-origin family that has a long history of mental illness and addiction, on stolen Lenni-Lenape land in rural New Jersey. These experiences led her to pursue specialized training within the eating disorder field starting during her time at Simmons University through which she had the opportunity to be an outreach intern with the Multiservice Eating Disorders Association and where she received her BS in Nutrition and Dietetics. Caitlyn then went on to pursue an MS in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, with a thesis focus on Orthorexia and its prevalence in US adults with Type I and II diabetes, and to pursue training as an Eating Disorders Recovery Coach through the Carolyn Costin Institute to expand her counseling skills. Caitlyn completed her eating disorder-focused dietetic internship also at Simmons University in 2021 and became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). She began working with clients with all eating disorder diagnoses and identities from a weight inclusive, Health at Every Size-aligned, trauma-informed perspective and has worked at both the inpatient and (currently) partial hospitalization levels of care. Caitlyn also recently completed her Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) credential through IAEDP and volunteers with ANAD as a peer support group facilitator. Caitlyn is never done learning about ways to deepen her roots in the concepts of body respect and trust, social justice, and best practices for eating disorders care and considers folks with lived experience as the greatest teachers. She works to expose the racist, white supremacist roots of both the field of dietetics and anti-fatness and works closely with her clients and the public to increase awareness of the harms of this rhetoric and take action to divest from ‘diet culture’ (ie mainstream culture) through everyday actions as well as through public speaking and writing. Outside of this space, you can find her splitting her time between NJ and MA to spend time with her Brittany Spaniels, Wills and Tuck, trying to find new chocolate recipes to make and engaging in her favorite mindful movements- adaptive yoga, rowing and powerlifting.
