There are many speedbumps in life and detours that change your path. Growing up my dream was to be a math teacher, to have that a classroom that students love to “chill” in and be someone who could make math fun and enjoyable, even for those that struggle with it. I wanted to make a difference and help others. I worked hard in high school, wouldn’t let anything stand in my way and earned 12 college credits.So off to college I went in pursue of this childhood dream; that is when I hit my first speedbump. I felt like one of those struggling kids that I yearned to help. After 3 years of treading water, I left and went to the local community college part time where I was able to get into the banking world full time. It took a lot of dedication and life questioning but after taking a class or two here and there I finally earned my Associate’s Degree. I walked proudly across that stage with my family in the audience, I did it I did not give up. Like any “road work” in life there is always a detour. I was feeling unsure of if teaching was what I actually wanted to do for my career. A position opened up within my company in the Accounting department so I took a chance and applied. After a year working in the Accounting department, I found a new passion and I decided that I was going to take a detour. Eager to learn, grow, and move up within the department, I am finally taking the steps to go back to school to earn my Bachelor’s degree at Syracuse University while continuing to work full time in Accounting.
