After leaving the pawn shop, I started working at Boise Gun Company as a Salesman. These guys had become almost as close as family so although I needed to find a better paying job, I stayed on their payroll and offer my help here when needed.

Boise, Idaho

I started here as a pawn broker and worked my way into management within the first year and a half. My duties were determining loans, sales, customer retention, inventory control, pawn inventory control, store book keeping and store finances and banking, firearm record keeping and ATF auditing. We also dealt in used vehicles so I was also a state licensed Salesman and responsible for keeping organized records for car sales and processing the necessary paperwork for customers.

Garden City, Idaho

I primarily sprayed and rolled paint commercially. I did spend fairly regular time operating lifts and large boom vehicles. I also spent a good amount of time working in the lacquer shop staining and clear coating wood trim and doors.

Boise, Idaho

I worked in the tear down shop, wash bay and blaster bay. We would first receive the train/ engine we were working on, then receive a "router" which was paperwork on the train that explained what needed to be removed. We would use such tools as hand tools, overhead cranes, torch cutters, body jacks and fork lifts to complete our work. We would then move the train to the wash bay and clean and prep the entire train for either reassembly or the blaster bay. In the blaster bay we wore heavy duty head masks with air hoses running to them because we used steel beads blasted at high force out of huge hoses to blast away old paint and grime to expose bare medal and prep for paint. In my time at Motive Power I received many certifications including: Fork Lifts, Overhead Crane, Respirator and Switching. Switching is when you ride the outside of the engine and assist the conductor in operating manual rail switches and instructing them when to move forward, backward or stop.
