I grew up in a small town in Northwest Arkansas where few opportunities to pursue a career in logistics or supply chain management were available. Despite this, I always had an interest in how businesses functioned and ran smoothly. This led me to deciding my future college major, and mapping out my plan for after my college career. Now that I have the city of Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas at my side, I can actively pursue my degree in supply chain management, with full confidence that I will find a job I love after college. I have worked hard throughout high school, starting sophomore year to be exact. I got my first job at Harps in Lincoln Arkansas when I was just 16, and I am still there currently. I worked 25-30 hours every week while also completing my school work in a neat and timely manner.Working at Harps at such a young age and in the environment provided, I learned many valuable skills I will hold with me forever.1. Customer Service - You can't be successful in a retail job without having good customer service. On my journey to becoming a closing manager at Harps I have dealt with nearly every situation you could think of in the store. Assisting customers with questions, making them feel welcomed, and giving them a great experience are just some of the many examples of customer service I have been able to master in my time here.2. Time Management - As a closing manager, your job is to get the store entirely faced, stocked, and looking fantastic before you and your night crew leave the store. In order to achieve this, you have to be able to manage your time exceptionally well, while also keeping your co-workers consistent and on task. 3. Independence - Closing managers are the highest part time position available at my store, meaning after a certain time in the day, once the store managers and department managers have gone home, you are alone. You have to take responsibility and face every situation that you come across. If something stressful comes up, you have to take it on and find a solution. This adds a certain level of problem-solving, independence, and responsibility that I believe everyone should experience in some form.
