Leading up to the summer of 2024 I was promoted to "Group Leader" of Camp Deer Run's second-oldest group (out of five). The group dubbed the "Nashamies" was made up of two men's cabins and two women's cabins. Each with 9-11 campers and 2-3 staff members. Bringing the total number of people under my supervision to roughly 50-55. My campers and staff would cycle in one-week or two-week blocks as sessions came and went. During sessions, my responsibilities consisted of giving an hour-long bible lesson to my campers (aged 13-17) every morning, organizing an hour and a half of group activity, supervising mealtimes, guiding my campers and counselors throughout the daily schedule, and meeting with other "program staff" to discuss the state of camp operations. On a weekly and bi-session basis, I was tasked with planning, organizing, and leading my group through "cookouts" (every Tuesday) and "out camping" (during each of the 3 two week sessions). Cookouts consisted of food planning and prep, leading the excursion to the cookout site, organizing the cooking, and giving a nighttime devotional. Outcamping was another ordeal. Our group partook in a 2-day 2-night excursion into the woods in which we cooked all our food, and slept in hammocks. I was the chief supervisor of my group of 55+ and was in charge of all the logistics. Including but not limited to, food prep, fire safety, organized supervision of campers, scheduling, activity planning, camp setup and teardown, and daily lessons. I was blessed to be offered this position to serve and I see it as an opportunity that increase my soft skills in the areas of leadership, public speaking, and team building.

I learned how to work in unfamiliar environments that are physically and mentally challenging while upholding a high standard of energy, personal character, and service.
