An Application Specialist receives the specifications, data sheets, and drawings from the customer and after reviewing them, provides a proposal to the customer for the Power Distribution Center and Non-Segregated Bus Duct. This required interfacing with numerous vendors for quotes including: Switchgear/MCC manufacturers, VFD manufacturers, HVAC manufacturers, Fire Detection/Suppression vendors, UPS & DC Battery system vendors, etc. In October 2009 the position of Project Manager/Estimator was created which combined the Application Specialist role with the Project Management role. From October 2009 to December 2010 I acted as interim supervisor of the department. I reviewed incoming requests for quote (RFQ) and assigned the quotes to colleagues in the Project Manager/Estimator team. I have been responsible for tracking outstanding quotes and the tools used to track them. I have submitted process changes in the department, workflow updates, and recommendations for improvements in tools for quoting. I have led production meetings and kick-off meetings, participated in the ISO 9001:2008 committee, and attended weekly management meetings. The Project Manager/Estimator position required me to follow the projects from request for quote phase (RFQ) to project shipment. I was responsible for collecting invoices, coordinating with engineering for drawing deliverables, checking with procurement to make sure the bill of material (BOM) was completely ordered, monitor the production department to ensure on-time delivery, and witness factory acceptance tests (FAT) to ensure compliance with drawings. I supported management during the due diligence phase of the acquisition by Siemens by gathering data and reporting information when requested.
