My experience working as an undergraduate researcher at the University of Tennessee’s Trinh Lab, which researches complex cellular systems, has prepared me to be a strong contributor in a laboratory setting. While working in the lab, I have demonstrated my ability to complete tasks independently, to quickly learn new procedures, and to follow detailed instructions. My work involves utilizing site-directed mutagenesis on E. coli to create a library of mutants that will later be screened for improved ester production. This laboratory work, along with earlier experiences detailed in my resume, has enabled me to demonstrate knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety practices, as well as to learn more specialized techniques including PCR, Gibson assembly, restriction enzyme digestion/ligation, heat-shock transformation, and plasmid extraction.
