To give you an overview of my background my parents are immigrants, and not as educated as they would have loved to be. But they are dedicated parents who have been working hard to support me and my younger brother, while still helping family members abroad. Since I was five, my parents pushed me to value education because they were born in Ethiopia and had limited opportunities. I am a first-generation Ethiopian American and I have learned that a good education is the key to success and achieving the American Dream.All throughout high school, I’ve taken several STEM classes because of my love for innovation. I have learned how to code a little, how to use a 3d printer and make 3D images, I’ve helped build a pumpkin catapult and even made robots that were able to receive simple commands because of a code that I wrote.Because of my love for the subject, I joined VCU in the Fall of 2021, majoring in computer engineering. I just completed my first year, I am excited to be returning in the Fall semester of 2022 to explore further and expand my knowledge in this field.This journey will open more doors and help me reach my ultimate goal for the future, which is to open my own tech company and embark on a new era of technology that will benefit humanity in this fast-changing and unpredictable world.
