Cali Lorton is an Associate Teacher at Mountain View High School, working with 9-12th graders in all levels of French. Focusing on helping students understand the importance not only of turning in work, but learning to become proficient and apply the language is one of her top goals. Working with a co-teacher gives the students the opportunity for multiple sources of aid, for breaking into small groups for specialized instruction, and to connect with a greater community.While teaching, Cali is also a student of Arizona State University. Currently she is pursuing her bachelor's degree in French and a Secondary Education teacher's certificate. She will be graduating in December 2023, where she will then begin her career as a French teacher in the Greater Phoenix area. Earning a bachelor's degree in French has allowed Cali to not only have an outlet to continue speaking French throughout the year, but to open her to a variety of teaching methods that can be implemented into secondary schools. While working towards her degree, Cali has also worked as a Resource Paraprofessional through Paradise Valley Unified School District to gain valuable hands-on experience with Special Education, something that cannot be taught enough through courses. Through this position, she was assigned groups of students to connect with, monitor, and tutor daily in general education curriculums. She was a valuable connection between General Education teachers and the Special Education team for answering questions on accommodations, management strategies, and student goals.Outside of her education and work, Cali enjoys speaking French with her friends and family, travelling to new cities, and baking. She has a dream to begin her own at-home bakery one day.
