Driven by a passion for ocean conservation, volunteered as a coral reef research diver in the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve outside Tulum, Mexico. This enabled hands-on participation in vital field work protecting fragile underwater ecosystems.Joined a research team during a three month expedition to the Mesoamerican Reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world. Received specialized training in visual survey techniques and safe diving certifications to meet research objectives.Conducted over 40 survey dives along the reef at varying locations, depths and times of day. Visually documented coral species, population sizes, bleaching patterns and ocean floor terrain via underwater photography and detailed notes.Contributed key first-hand observations and photographic records that helped assess reef health, fish populations and develop conservation strategies. Data highlighted concerning declines in coral density and diversity around popular tourist sites.Living on site at the remote research base for three months offered invaluable hands-on experience and camaraderie.
