As the commander of a recruit training platoon Callum was responsible for the supervision, development and effective training of between 50-60 personnel at any one time, commanding a training team of five experienced and motivated Army Recruit Instructors. Recruit training involves extended and irregular hours where Callum was often required to counsel and report on new soldiers of a variety of age and experience. The Australian Army is a Registered Training Organisation and as such all courses conducted were to be in accordance with all Vocational Educational and Training guidelines as set out by the Australian Skills Quality Authority.
