Started out as a Mechanical Fitter for the manufacturing and assembly of Cable Coiling Machines (manual & driven) I was then appointed a department lead for Toolmaking and Maintenance for the Resin-cast side of production alongside machine production. This was both proactive and reactive, with direct mold tool machining, repairs and improvements as well as facilities maintenance. This was in an electrical component manufacturing environment - mainly specialising in high voltage insulators.

Completed a 4-year Advanced Mechanical Manufacturing apprenticeship, gaining a Level 3 - Gloucestershire Engineering Training. My career path at G-Tekt started out as a Toolmaker apprentice, learning all aspects and processes of Press Die tooling.This included everything from using CAD/CAM for primary process machining of stock materials (CNC/EDM), Hand Fitting & Assembly techniques, Conventional Workshop Machinery exposure, secondary process machining (3D) all the way through to line trial/mass-pro scheduling. This was a fast-paced, automotive sub-assembly environment with JIT production. The Toolmaker role was fundamental to my career progression into Die Maintenance. This was due to the knowledge gained from identifying tooling components, materials, applications, and being able to identify both Progression and Transfer tooling along with the role of each stage. After 3+ years in Toolmaking, I was transferred to Die Maintenance to learn more about assessing tooling issues and how to check, repair and improve them safely and effectively. This was both heavily Pro-active and Re-active including press breakdown call outs, PFUs, Target sheets and KPIs. Maintenance led to the growth of knowledge and skills regarding tooling components, such as: - Fitting & servicing of Nitrogen spring circuits- Fitting & servicing of Pneumatic Lifter units- Use & understanding of Hydraulic spotting presses (500t, 800t) - Use & servicing of EDM wire machines - Use of CNC Mills and all conventional machinery; mills, lathes, surface grinder, pedestal & radial drills, bandsaw, cylindrical grinder, off-hand belt sanders. - Use of 15-20 tonne overhead cranes for separating and turning tooling - Use of MIG/TIG/MMA welding; structural repairs, trim edge refurbishment, scrap chute fabrications. At all times, company H&S policies were adhered to with regards to PPE, SWL's, COSHH etc. Upkeep of 5s standards and Kaizen were implemented throughout.
