For more than twenty years I have worked with my hands, bringing meaningful, finely crafted objects to life for clients all over the world. Projects with storytelling, considered craftsmanship, collaboration and imagination close to their hearts, using skills I learned from my father - now one of the UK's foremost Master Woodcarvers (but still proudly making it all up more or less as he goes along). With Method Studio, the creative practice I co-founded with my wife - designer, lecturer, architect (and all-round powerhouse) Marisa Giannasi, in 2009 - it has been my great privilege to work with clients including Vacheron Constantin, Bentley Motors, Hermes, Aesop, The Macallan, Burberry and Edinburgh Castle, to exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Academy of the Arts in London and Paris and Berlin Fashion Weeks, and to be shortlisted for Heritage Crafts' prestigious 'Made in Britain' Award. Though I'm regularly still to be found at my bench - solving problems, picking splinters from my fingers, making a mess and generally driving the team crazy - as time has passed my role in our projects has organically evolved. Where once I filled my days with the dusty business of artisanal woodwork, my focus now is often more hands-off. Design, creative direction, craft consultancy and, increasingly (to my great delight) writing. My first book, Ingrained: The Making of a Craftsman (a memoir of a creative life, of working with my father and with wood and trees) will be published in August 2024 by Doubleday in the UK, and December 2024 by Ecco in the US. And when wearing that particular hat, I am represented by Sophie Lambert at Conville & Walsh, and Rebecca Gradinger at UTA.
