The Biola University Library provides an opportunity for a fusion of many of the skills I've honed in previous occupations and settings; my experience as a leader and trainer, my talent as a programmer, my attention to detail, and my inability to go to bed before 2am. I wear several hats working at the Biola Library, among those most noteworthy, I am the Library Building and Safety Supervisor, the Evening and Weekend Supervisor, and the Circulation and Access Services Training Manager.As the Building Supervisor, it is my responsibility to liaise with Campus Safety and Facilities Services to ensure the building is secure and in working order. I initiate maintenance requests, coordinate new construction, and ensure all library staff are on the same page with regards to emergency procedures as they pertain to the building.As the Evening and Weekend Supervisor, I am responsible for the operations of the building during some of the peak hours of library use: Sundays thru Thursdays from noon-9pm. University students frequent the library on the evenings when they have class or due dates the following day. I ensure the staff present during those critical times are well equipped to meet the needs of our patrons.As the Circulation and Access Services Training Supervisor, I work closely with the Circulation Supervisor to co-manage hiring, scheduling, and payroll for a student staff of 40. I am further responsible for the training program which orients newly hired student workers. The training program I've developed spans 40 hours of mixed format instruction. Classroom sessions cover topics and concepts; 1-on-1 training to practice those concepts and hone customer service skills.I also implement custom software solutions to enhance our effectiveness serving our customers and stewarding our resources. I've coded and implemented half-a-dozen software solutions which aid with student worker training, collate circulation statistics, and expedite access services procedures.

I started working at Biola Library in March of 2013 as a student worker in the Circulation Department; shelving books, providing customer service, and processing materials which had been recently returned. After a few months I proposed to my supervisors that our statistics tracking could be upgraded for faster reporting capabilities. Having recently broken my leg rendering me pretty useless as a shelver, I was given the title of Office Assistant where I spent a considerable amount of my time programming a circulation statistics management system. When my supervisor left the university, I offered to become his replacement.

As the Armory Chief at 3rd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Marine Forces Reserve, my duties included accountability for weapons and electro-optical ordnance items and maintenance of the same. Additionally, I coordinated a shop of up to three other Marines and direct tasks in support of company field operations and range training.
