At Blackbaud, I most recently worked on designing, architecting, and helping implement the migration of several physical data centers into both Azure and AWS (most were Azure). This involved designing network topology and rules to ensure security, governance, and compliance needs were met, and to promote isolation and reduced attack surfaces wherever possible. Instead of doing lift-and-shifts, we worked with development teams to modernize their fleets wherever possible with fully-hosted PaaS solutions that were deployed on a modernized CI/CD environment using Azure DevOps. This included instrumenting all migrated components with logging, monitoring, and alerting, as well as mentoring new teams that were stood up for these tasks.At Kroll Ontrack I mainly consulted internally on various projects, research efforts, and escalated problem solving. I served as co-Chief Architect for the company’s redesign of their internal grid-computing environment into a cloud-based SOA environment. That involved architecting the core low-level service templates and stacks, contracts, endpoints, protocols, serialization/deserialization, and messaging patterns, as well as planning high availability strategies, elastic autoscaling of resources, multi-datacenter/region architectures, and secure computing strategies.At both jobs I also had a role performing Due Diligence on several merger and acquisition targets, which involved interviewing staff about the architecture and development practices, as well as in-depth code analysis to determine code quality and maintainability, as well as security posture.I prefer to have a position where I can still contribute my development skills on a weekly basis, provide troubleshooting, proof-of-concept prototypes, and code reviews where needed.
