About Cameron Oglesby
Hello! My name is Cameron Oglesby and I am an environmental justice organizer/advocate, award-winning journalist, ecologist, multi-media storyteller, and intrapreneur committed to reforming modern sustainability structures for a more equitable future. My passion lies in the integration of community-driven, place-based perspectives and narratives in conservation, environmental policy, modern media, and corporate decision-making. My work is inspired by my own connection to ancestral farmland that's been in my family for almost 100 years. The goal? To redefine what our relationship with Mother Earth looks like, re-envision what environmentalism looks like, and re-center the voices, narratives, and knowledge of affected communities – communities of color and rural communities – in the stories we’re telling and the solutions we’re developing. I'm passionate about redistributing power, platforms, and resources to those with undercovered lived experiences, doing so through direct organizing, financial advocacy, and the creation of digital collections that preserve and call attention to pervasive histories of environmental racism, inspirational community resilience, and land-based ancestral wisdom.National Geographic Young Explorer • Young, Gifted, & Green 40 Under 40 Awardee • Aspen Institute Future Climate Leader • Covering Climate Now Student Journalist of the Year 2023 • Environmental Education (EE) 30 Under 30 Leader • PCIC Young Climate Leaders of Color Fellow • Yale/Op-Ed Project Public Voices Fellow on the Climate Crisis • Uproot Project Environmental Justice Fellow 2022 • Memorial Foundation Social Justice Fellow Alum • Doris Duke Conservation Scholar Alum“Action on behalf of life transforms. Because the relationship between self and the world is reciprocal, it is not a question of first getting enlightened or saved and then acting.
