I am Cameron McCarty, an AI Engineer from Seattle WA. I went to the University of Washington as a first generation student for both my BSEE and MSEE. I am a profesional member of IEEE.In undergrad I studied EE fundamentals like circuit and signal analysis. I took specialized coursework in VLSI, DSP, and a capstone project in Embedded Systems. I've learned many programming languages but my favorite are C, Python, Java, and SystemVerilog. I have always tried to focus on communicating my ideas. I am usually the one to make UML diagrams, and have a personal project game written in LaTeX.In grad school I have found my calling in machine learning. I have taken advanced coursework in the theory and application of these systems, including coding many of these models, from scratch and by hand in Python and C. A lot of my experience lies in images, where my background in DSP gives me useful insights into the spatial dependence that exists in images. I am however really exited by non image models as well. My real curiosity has been in the emerging field of Explainable AI, or XAI. Many engineers will deploy a model by verifying with accuracy, but will fail to validate by ensuring the model has learned correct relationships. By using XAI techniques, we can can generate explanations globally for a model or locally for a single prediction, that allow for fixing bugs and build confidence for consumers.My favorite project was deploying manufactured occlusion on training samples to develop performance in image classification with missing data. So far the work is promising. I hope to continue this work and try more artificial occlusion methods and gather naturally occluded data to test on. The idea behind occlusion came from insights in XAI as many methods rely on feature removal.After school I began my career working for Epic Systems as a Patient Experience Technical Solutions Engineer. I've enjoyed forging partnerships with my customer counterparts, but the best part has been making MyChart a better product for them and the patients.

  I am the catch all for any questions MyChart, or any of the other patient experience products at Epic for my 2 health system and 2 health plan customers. This means owning their success and guiding them to outcomes.
