Being welcomed into the home of a Swazi family as a Peace Corps Volunteer profoundly shaped my understanding of privilege and community. Their lessons on collective care and resilience changed my life’s trajectory, guiding me from language studies to a career in medicine and global health. I will never truly be able to repay them for this kindness. My work in Eswatini, alongside learning from underserved communities in the U.S., during my global pediatrics residency, strengthened my clinical, advocacy, and cross-cultural skills, and deepened my commitment to equity and justice.I envision a world where no child suffers, goes hungry, or feels unsafe. If death must occur, it should be met with dignity and relief from pain. My career in global health and palliative care is rooted in this vision: to decolonize medical aid, expand access to palliative care, empower marginalized communities, and train future healthcare workers in historically excluded regions.Through collective action, decolonial praxis, and reimagining power structures, I strive to work towards a more just and compassionate world for the children of tomorrow.
