Created testing hardware compatible with a Coriolis flow meter and an oscilloscope, using Excel FFT to determine root cause. Decreased lube section ripple by 2.5x by correctly phasing shaft and developed a method to determine air/oil ratio. Identified conditions that caused high cavitation and led to scavenge section ripple. Utilized Ansys Discovery CFD to prove hydraulic flow forces were negligible. • Modeled and analyzed gerotor stresses by altering internal CFD tools, creating usable input constraints through Excel analysis, and iteratively adjusting material deflection and oil film thickness solutions using Ansys Mechanical. Reported worst case operating conditions that could result in gerotor cracking.• Proved crack in pump component was from improper assembly/disassembly through use of Ansys Mechanical.• Evaluated potential CFD software in terms of ease-of-use, time required, and features present. Communicated with outside vendor to improve software based on these metrics.
