Living on a 10-acre ranch all my life, I was raised to be a hands-on, "in-the-dirt" type of worker. A huge portion of my childhood was spent building and remodeling portions of our property with my father. You may wonder why such experience is relevant to Civil Engineering, but the overlap couldn't be clearer. Since I was young, I was passionate about learning how things work and how they are built. Every remodeling project or simple fix-up around the ranch kindled inside of me a fiery passion for physics and mathematics. As a result, my engineering interests today are structural, geotechnical, hydraulics, construction and engineering materials. The kind of work I’ve done over the past few years exemplifies this blend of hands-on work with my love for science. Three years ago, I took a position as a biotech research assistant at the United States Department of Agriculture citrus facility in Ft. Pierce, FL. In this position, my role was both hands-on in managing the citrus farm but also very research-oriented when it came to analyzing samples and other lab work. My work shifted more towards just engineering last summer when I was hired at O’Rourke planning and engineering as a transportation analyst. My role was to perform transportation analyses for private businesses in the Treasure Coast. After I graduate with my bachelor’s in civil engineering, I hope to start my master’s degree in structural/geotechnical engineering. This will get me one step closer to my life goal of having a PHD in an engineering related field.

Ranch ManagerDouble Cc Ranch May 2021 - PresentPalm City, Florida, United StatesIn this role, I oversee both the daily operations of the 15-acre Double CC Ranch and assist in overall repairs of the ranch. This job requires me to use daily, small applications of engineering, mechanics and hydraulics as I assist in construction or repair projects. Often, it's in the best interest of the ranch for me to solve problems myself rather than bring in an outside professional. One such example is when the water switch broke. I used my common sense, construction skills, and engineering experience to solve the problem myself.

Transportation AnalystO'Rourke Engineering & Planning Jun 2022 - Sep 2022Stuart, Florida, United StatesOver the course of this internship, I conducted individual transportation analysis for over 20 businesses operating in the private sector. I also expanded my communication and research skills by writing at least 2-3 transportation reports each week ensuring every project was in accordance with Martin County municipality codes. This job also required heavy collaboration with other analysts on over 25 different transportation reports, so it taught me about working well on a team. -
Biotechnical Research Lab AssistantUs Department Of Agriculture (Usda) Agricultural Research Service (Ars) May 2018 - Aug 2019Ft. Pierce, FlAs a lab assistant working in the hands-on management for a citrus farm, I expanded my technical lab as well as research skills. On this 100+ acre farm, I gathered and organized data on over 2500 Citrus trees. I assisted the lab managers in prepping over 500 citrus seed samples over the course of my time. These numbers only scratch the surface of just how much hands-on research experience I got in this role. We also did sensory analysis to determine possible genetic traits based of tree characteristics and conducted weekly data analysis reports based of the hundreds of samples collected each week.
