I am an Engineering Geologist with over 20 years of post-graduate experience in land development, large scale infrastructure development and mining and quarrying. I specialize in slope stability, geotechnical investigation and natural hazard identification and have a detailed knowledge of geology, engineering properties, and geotechnical risks for engineering development throughout New Zealand.The range of work I have undertaken has included response to natural hazard events, primarily landslides for both NZ government agencies and private clients. In addition I have been involved in geotechnical investigation and design for large scale infrastructure (primarily fresh water and wastewater reticulation) and land development projects.I have a significant work history in the extractives sector (mining and quarrying) in both weak and hard rock geology. This work has provided me with a practical background in the expected performance of a range of cut slopes and large earthworks fills.A good understanding of the New Zealand regulatory environment is one of my strengths including the ability to present often complex geotechnical issues within the framework of environmental effects. I have provided technical support to Regulatory Authorities when assessing consent applications and have developed and presented geotechnical evidence on behalf of both Applicants and Regional Authorities at consent hearings and at the Environment Court. I am certified as an independent Resource Management Act (RMA) hearing commissioner. My international project work has included Sri Lanka, Samoa, Fiji and Indonesia undertaken on a project specific basis for NGO’s as well as local authorities.
