In progress research project utilizing survey data to measure the impact of creative ‘making’ in the UNC BeAM’s Makerspace in introductory geoscience, with a focus on less represented student populations in geology—specifically, first-generation students, transfer students, and Pell grant recipients.Utilizing statistical tools such as JASP and Excel to organize data, conduct statistical analyses, and develop a comprehensive theoretical framework. This involves assessing 'making' experiences prior to this project that are framed in the context of sociocultural identities, measuring potential disparities in 'maker' excitement, community values, and enthusiasm for integrating 'making' into education, particularly within these underrepresented student groups.Aiming to contribute to the understanding of variations in 'making' experiences and potentially uncovering gaps in STEM/STEAM education for underrepresented populations; expected contributions to inform inclusivity and equity discourse in science education.

PATH case management for people experiencing chronic homelessness and severe mental illness. Frequently involved in community outreach, searching for tent encampments and cities. Position required meticulous documentation, mental health advocacy, interpersonal relationship building, and crisis stabilization skills. NCPSS and MHFA certified.
