I took on an apprenticeship as a full-time electrician at Reid Electrical in a mostly domestic setting. There, I was part of a small business where I was exposed to a massive cross section of electrical work ranging from new builds and renovations, to service work and odd-jobs while I learned. I had to work seamlessly with a variety of tradesmen and clients, co-operating and communicating effectively to meet deadlines. Problem solving and flexibility were integral skills in everyday work as we had to tailor solutions to fit what each client’s unique budget and situation warranted.

I was employed by the Auckland Council on a summer placement as a Summer Student working in the Hydrology team. This was based out of their Takapuna offices but led me all over Auckland maintaining and servicing both rain gauge sites and flow sites from as far south as Bombay, all the way north to Leigh.

I was employed as a Surf Lifeguard over two summers in a Senior Lifeguard position. This job included the set up and maintaining of a safe swimming area, interacting and educating the public regularly, recognizing and responding quickly to hazardous and/or life-threatening situations, managing and aiding Junior Lifeguards, maintenance of rescue vehicles and equipment, and keeping fit to be ready to respond.
