After graduating from Durant High School (Plant City, FL) in 2005, I attended college at Hillsborough Community College (Plant City, FL) until beginning the Criminal Justice Academy in February 2007. I graduated from the Hillsborough Community College's Criminal Justice Academy (Tampa, FL) in July 2007. I then, in October 2007, began my career in law enforcement with the Apopka, FL Police Department by becoming certified as a police officer. Over the course of my career as a law enforcement officer, I served the Apopka Police Department as a Field Training Officer (FTO), a squad traffic officer, and as a School Resource Officer (SRO). I have also served as a member on the department's Training, Crisis Negotiation, Emergency Response, and Traffic Homicide Investigations Units. I also became certified as a Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) and assisted in the department's communications center. In June 2016, I became certified as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). I furthered my training as a Drug Recognition Expert by becoming a DRE Instructor in 2021. Additionally, in July 2021, I was selected as Florida's 2020 Drug Recognition Expert of the Year by the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Program. Through my job performance with the Apopka Police Department in the year 2021, I was recognized as the 2021 Apopka Police Officer of the Year. As an instructor, I have taught police officers from across the State of Florida on behalf of the Apopka Police Department, Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM), and the Florida Attorney General's Office. I have provided instruction the areas of DWI Detection & Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises (FSEs), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), Drug Recognition Expert, and how to recognize impairment as a School Resource Officer.
