Where would a mango grow… pardon me, where would a man go to grow and fulfill his personal legend? I guess there is no single definitive answer to this as per the nature of the question. In my case, after a lifetime of meandering unique experiences, I had to come to the U.S. for this is where it is all happening on a whole different level, and this is where my heart belongs. I believe marketing is what makes the world go round and what can provide a better future for all humanity in the right hands. By means of marketing, I mean to be a functioning cog in some great machinery serving something beyond me.As a child, I would often dream of becoming a superhero, like many children do. Now I know I don’t need to be one to make a meaningful impact on society or the world in general. I just need hard honest work that brings together the best parts of my personal skills and background.Working on my undergraduate degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, I was fortunate to have a meeting with the rector of my school, Istanbul Technical University, the top in its field. She advised me to combine my engineering knowledge and skills with something else to create a unique understanding of the world and provide a different value proposition than what is common out there. So, I went to San Francisco to pursue my graduate degree in Business Administration and Marketing at SFSU. During my studies, I was involved in multiple startups including Tiles of the City, a business importing natural stone tiles, and Hot Spud, which was a quick-gourmet restaurant specializing in baked potatoes that became a favorite among San Francisco locals soon after.Upon my return to Turkey, I learned that Yasar University was about to start a program named Marina and Yacht Management, the first in its field in Turkey. So, I started my career as an academic and created the curriculum for the program from scratch. I lectured at Yasar University for about 10 years, most of it as the Head of Department for Transportation Services.Moving to the U.S. with my family in 2021, I knew I had to reinvent myself. Hence, I started working as a Licensed Yacht Broker at Preferred Yachts, combining my years of experience, knowledge and networking in the yachting world as a marketing specialist. Now I am open to roles in marketing management, marketing strategy, business development, brand management, and project management. Please feel free to drop me a line on cankaraosmanoglu@gmail.com if you ever need marketing advice, new ideas, or just want to chat about marketing and/or yachts.
