A multidisciplinary maker, graduate of Textile Art & Artefact at National College of Art & Design and MA graduate in Interdisciplinary Design Practices at Limerick School of Art and Design, I am passionate about reviving traditional textile methods to promote sustainable fashion and create eco-conscious designs.During my studies, I completed an extensive iterative project on household recycling, with a focus on Behaviour Change Design, and the Theory of Planned Behaviour. I also developed a reusable textile concept, Postie, that offered multi-functionality to consumers, and a project on the ancient Japanese Shibori technique using natural indigo to create resist-dye patterns on a kimono. This has provided me with insight into material, and fibre selection to realise creative briefs while remaining ethically aware of their production or of their origin.Currently, I am in the process of preparing four workshops, acting as behaviour interventions, for secondary school students, with the aim to change their buying behaviours, and influence their fashion consumption. In order to combat the ethical dilemma of textile production, I endeavour to establish a more circular economy designed to encourage clothing repair, sustainable lifestyles, and information-driven fashion choices through educational and transformational approaches. My scientific background has also aided in the research and development element of textile design. This has broadened my understanding of traditional textile processes and has improved the quality of testing, particularly when synthesising colours and fabric manipulation.I am an avid learner, continuously focused on personal development and opportunities to apply my skills in practical settings. I believe in nurturing the strengths of other artists, textile designers, and colleagues to encourage skills sharing but to also provide different perspectives. Through discussion and positive reinforcement, a more integrated and collaborative workforce will emerge and this will lead to enhanced results in the long term.If you would like to know more about my experiences, please feel free to connect with me.
