I was a para/interventionist. When one or both students were at school, I was an interventionist. When I was not working with my students because they were absent, I was a para or would become a substitute based on building needs.I supported two students, a third grader in the morning and a kindergartener in the afternoon.-Provided social-emotional support by teaching advocacy, self, and co-regulation, created a daily visual schedule, and ensured physicall safetly for both students who had known un-safe behaviors such as hiding or trying to leave school location. In addition, my co-para/interventionist and I took daily behavior and academic notes for the third-grade student, which were turned in to the supervisor at the end of the school day-Provided academic support in reading, writing, math, and test-taking.-Took part in IEP and 504 plans for both students to set appropriate social-emotional and academic learning goals.

I worked for my Bachelor's Degree in Amy Verrill's 3rd-grade classroom of 22 students during my second semester, senior year at Champlain College.-I created and implemented reading, writing, spelling, science lesson, and unit plans. Collected a range of resources needed for lesson planning and resources students would use to complete lesson work. At the same time, I was meeting students' IEP and 504 goals. One of the units I taught was a science unit about Force and Interactions, which focused on hands-on learning. -I gained Classroom management skills by watching my mentor teacher and providing teaching assistance in a one-on-one and small group setting. In addition, I taught two solo weeks and substituted for my mentor teacher. This time allowed me to use skills gained in a classroom environment, and collecting feedback from students and mentor teachers helped me see what aspects needed to improve. -I worked with guidance counselors and students' case managers to ensure materials were accessible to all students. I participated in the classroom and school-wide communities through open communication and interactions with other faculty and students. I also participated in school-wide and grade-level faculty meetings.-The organization skills I gained allowed me to keep track of students' completed work, cover grade-level materials, and help students complete assignments. -Learn more details of the working of IEP and 504 plans and how to better support students with these supports. My previous experience with them was solely from a student's perspective.

St. James's Primary is in the Liberties of Dublin 8, Ireland. The students who come here tend to be from the high-risk population. My Champlain College, Dublin Location Professor, Darren Kelly, supervised me as I worked in Ms. Fisher's preschool classroom of 18 students. From this experience, I could compare the American and Irish school systems. As well as show my ability to adapt my knowledge and teaching skills to fit the classroom environment at St. James's Primary. - Provided teaching assistance during reading, writing, and math- Provided a positive and accepting community to help with student engagement.- Helped students that needed one-on-one assistance by sitting with them and using learned techniques to help them finish the class activity independently.
