As a law clerk in the Consumer Protection Division, I investigated potential targets and businesses. I performed legal research for a variety of active cases, as well as drafted documents and subpoenas for cases under FDUTPA and RICO. I also had the opportunity to draft a portion of a brief submitted to the 1st D.C.A. and edited the document.

As the sole intern on my floor, I handled the victim and witness contact, evidence collection, and filing decision forms for all of the misdemeanor walk-in cases. I had approximately fifteen to twenty walk-ins on my desk at any time, and I handled well over fifty cases in my time at the office. I had the opportunity to research a wide variety of issues I was previously unfamiliar with, from admissibility of evidence and statements to warrants and expungements. Throughout the summer I worked with almost every attorney on my floor with assignments such as research, jail calls, drafting motions, or other trial assistance.

I volunteered, and eventually worked, as a student assistant for approximately two years. During that time I took phone calls and scheduled appointments, assisted student clients, assisted attorneys with paperwork, and opened and closed files. I learned generally what attorneys do, and this position helped me decide to go to law school.
