Experienced “Evolved & Repentant” Energy Specialists with oil/gas/petrochemical grounding, that has over the last few decades transitioned to appreciating our environment, concentrating on what we can do to mitigate man-made climate change. So why not use Employee Retention Credit Funds to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint? While there seems to be boundless corporate backing for achieving Carbon Neutrality, there always seems to be a lack of funding when making plans to attain that goal. But what if you were able to identify an unrealized funding source – could those “free” funds be earmarked for energy efficiency projects or purchasing Carbon Offsets? The Employee Retention Credit is a Covid-19 federal response program under the Cares Act that was most recently amended in late 2022. This program provides a credit of up to $26,000 per employee if your business was negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. If your operations were negatively impacted through a government mandate or restriction, or you were unable to obtain goods or materials from your suppliers, you can qualify. This program is available to organizations (including non-profits) with a minimum of 10 employees. PresidentCarbonless Community Feb 2013 - Present5454 S. Dorchester Ave., Chicago, Il 60615I recently completed a client engagement that included purchasing tens of thousands of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). The volume of the purchase wasn’t unusual – but the unit price and total dollar cost were. The total cost was about six times what we would have paid as few as two years ago for the same number of RECs. As RECs have been the “go-to” carbon mitigation instrument for corporate carbon footprint accounting for decades, I decided to do some investigating to see if there was some other carbon-mitigation vehicle that could complement the use of RECs. My findings are included in the enclosed white paper I wrote on “Re-assessing Carbon Mitigation Strategies.” In response to our findings, we are working diligently with Colleges, Universities and Businesses offering carbon mitigation alternatives that better meet our clients’ environmental and social justice goals in a more cost-effective manner.
