Clinical adjunct professor for the School of Nursing

Dialysis nursing. Accessing and care of AV fistulas/grafts, permcaths and temporary dialysis catheters. Care of acute hospitalized patients in need of dialysis treatments. Peritoneal dialysis including obtaining samples of peritoneal fluid. Ongoing assessment of patients before, during and after their dialysis treatments. Educating patients and families about diet, fluid intake, medications and all aspects of renal failure. Collaborating with medical team and adjunct services to ensure the patient is getting the appropriate therapies for a patient with renal failure.

Care of premature and medically fragile newborns. Critical care nursing. Ventilator and airway maintenance. IV and central line care and maintenance. Medication administration. Education of families in the individual needs and care of their newborns. Vaccine education and administration to the NICU patient and family members as needed. Capillary, venous and arterial blood sampling. Cross trained in pediatrics for floating.

Camp Nursing for pediatric patients on dialysis attending Frost Valley YMCA summer camp. Working under the auspices of Montefiore Medical Center. Delivering safe dialysis treatments including peritoneal dialysis to campers screened and selected by the Ruth Gottscho Kidney Foundation. Administration of all medications for the campers in various stages of renal failure including post transplant. Ongoing assessment and clinical decision making regarding the safety of patients at the camp including when transfer to local hospitals is necessary. Ensuring safe and fun activities for medically fragile children attending this mainstreaming camp.

Nursing care of healthy and medically fragile newborns. Interacting with community doctors regarding laboratory results and nursing assessment findings. Educating new parents about care of their newborn. Assessment of newborns and determining whether a higher level of care is needed including transfer to level III centers.
