A native of West Virginia, I grew up surrounded by nature and animals, sports and music. But I also witnessed and experienced first-hand some of the devastating effects of poverty: food insecurity, housing instability, inadequate healthcare, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence…. I focused on academic pursuits and, with the support of strong role models and mentors, was fortunate to attend college in North Carolina, study abroad in Mexico, and pursue a career in teaching.My interests and passion steered me toward work in non-profit leadership focused on advancing the wellbeing of women and marginalized and underserved groups. During that time, I continued my education by completing law school, which added unique depth to be even more effective in the sector. Currently, I am working on my MBA to further enhance my leadership expertise.As a non-profit executive, I learned it was critical to develop a comprehensive knowledge base and skill set that spans programmatic, operational and fundraising functions. I have often been called upon to lead and manage within organizations and projects that are experiencing significant growth, change, transition or need turnaround. I endeavor to be a flexible, resourceful and diplomatic leader who can relate to a diverse group of stakeholders; I genuinely enjoy inspiring others and turning ideas into action.This Lou Holtz quote really resonates with me: “I follow three rules: Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care.
