Represented English- and Spanish-speaking clients with claims against their former employers, mainly violations of California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and Labor statutes but also defamation and other torts. As lead associate for assigned cases, I was responsible for handling them day-to-day through settlement or trial. I handled communications with opposing counsel and clients, discovery, motion work, depositions, mediation briefs and trial documents. I appeared regularly at hearings in Superior Court and drafted and/or argued a wide range of motions, oppositions to motions, and ex-parte applications. I was second chair at a bench trial, a jury trial, and evidentiary hearings in arbitration.

Attorney in the Right to Counsel workgroup. Provided legal counsel and litigated on behalf of English- and Spanish- speaking tenants at risk of being evicted. Represented tenants in unlawful detainer (eviction) proceedings alleging non-payment of rent, nuisance, and breach of covenant; wrote briefs and motions; made court appearances; researched and applied landlord-tenant law, including Covid 19-specific federal, state, and county law; propounded discovery and responded to discovery requests; negotiated settlements on behalf of clients.

Taught seminar for Staff of the Southwestern Journal of International Law, with heavy focus on writing and editing skills.

Recommended findings on alleged violations of federal anti-discrimination laws; researched and wrote memoranda; drafted motions and memoranda of points and authorities supporting motions; drafted discovery materials; interviewed witnesses in pre-litigation investigations for the Enforcement Unit.

Taught in the Diplomacy and World Affairs Department and the school's CORE program, including writing seminars and classes on Latin American politics, human rights and international law.

Worked in the production of To the Point, an award-winning show on U.S. and international news. Collaborated with host Warren Olney and other producers in a strongly team-oriented environment to ensure that each show was newsworthy, informative and comprehensive. Tasks included identifying and pre-interviewing experts and other guests for upcoming shows, and briefing the host on guests and issues.

Initially Staff and Research Associate, I researched, wrote and edited numerous projects, including briefs for the Pacific Council's membership on events with speakers and the report "Latin America after the Washington Consensus."
