I am a Graphics Research Lead/Manager at Meta RL Research. My prior work has spanned 3D graphics applications, graphics driver development, graphics architectures, immersive computing, and machine learning in real-time rendering. My interests are in generative AI + graphics, graphics architectures, and cognitive computing. In Carl’s 24+ year career at Intel, he started and managed SW graphics driver team, developed numerous 3d graphics algorithms in the Intel Architecture Labs, architected graphics architecture solutions, developed new computer simulations and programming languages, and developing next generation AI augmenting graphics and generative AI solutions. Carl has 60+ patents issued and published several technical papers and book chapters. Carl earned a Masters in Computer Science from Clemson University.

    Intel Labs – Immersive Computing Lab Job Description: Technical lead for the Immersive Computing Lab. Carl drove the vision of making any surface into an interactive display surface. He developed an all-in-one small form factor compute device with a projector, depth camera, and connectivity, client/server architecture that allows any surface/client to talk to any other device (Interactive bowl could interact with Immersive wall), new interactive touch client for planar and non-planar surfaces, programmed iOS and Android app for interacting with display wall, analyzed many depth sensors (structured light, time of flight, and LIDAR), developed ultrasonic proximity sensor via smartphones, and developed Intel Smartroom interactive display surface to automatically allow presenter selection. The “display anywhere” project has been shown in numerous installations across the world through the Creator’s Project, Research@Intel, Intel Developer Forum, CHI 2013, Ted Talks, and on permanent display at Hotel Lucia in Portland, OR. Worked with Business Units on integrated the Labs touch client, display calibration, and developing designs for small form factor compute/display/depth devices. Worked with a clinical psychologist, in the Intel User Experience Lab, on adding emotional expression to enrich the user interaction to the “display anywhere” project.
