This position involves providing support to 160 laid off co-workers, whose jobs were terminated when operations ceased, and were relocated to Mexico.The support comes in various forms.1. Operating and maintaining the action center where the workers can come in personally. Work with these former workers who seek assistance with their re-employment goals2. Prepare monthly newsletters, flyers and other communications for the workers. This includes a website.3. Work with community agencies to provide direct services to the employees.4. Provide regular activity and status reports.5. Promote the skills of the laid off workers with local employers.

The plant in Barrie, Ont. manufactured heavy duty truck axles. My positions entailed operating various machines, in the process of manufacturing heavy truck axles.I also was a worker rep for the "Joint Health and Safety Committee" for eight years.Participated in an "Excellence in Manufacuring" team that delivered measurable improvements in productivity, efficiency, workflow, process, safety, and product yields.
