Senior Account Manager
International Marketing Manager
As the International Marketing Manager for Visit Houston, I get to work with our top international markets every day. I primarily focus on Mexico, Europe, and Asia, but also manage smaller activities in Australia and New Zealand. I've launched B2B and B2C campaigns in the markets above, with the goal of developing brand recognition, educating travel trade about selling Houston as a leisure destination, and of course, increasing the amount of room nights produced in Houston. I manage out consumer-facing Spanish language website, www.holahouston.com, and work closely with our agency in Mexico on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram social media accounts. In my tenure at Visit Houston, I've more than doubled the organic site visitation. We've recently launched our Spanish language experience marketplace - www.holahoustonmarket.com - which serves as the easiest way to find, buy, and experience things to do in Houston. This product was launched to mirror our English language experience marketplace, experience.visithouston.com. I was on the team that managed the development and translation of the Hola Houston Market, and now I manage it with support from our Product Development Manager. I guide the creation of itineraries for familiarization tours for product managers and travel agents from all around the world, so that they can experience the best of Houston and make it easier to sell it to their clients as a leisure destination. Additionally, I've worked on planning and developing the departmental budget, managing our relationship with the U.S. Tourism Marketing Organization, Brand USA, and presented to groups of peers and to groups of stakeholders.
Professional Services Manager
I managed our talented Professional Services Team, who is responsible for project management, design, development, quality assurance, and search engine optimization. We work with local and national clients on template websites to full design websites. I also collaborated with the entire management team, was responsible for weekly updates and forecasts. I created standards for a project management process on our project management system, and focused on how to continuously improve the system. My team members have some experience in all aspects of creating and launching a website, and they get to collaborate together from start to finish.I also co-organized bi-weekly personal development training sessions, where the entire company would have the opportunity to learn skills applicable to any work place. I assisted with technical support, answering questions about our Tendenci 5.1 software to existing clients. I worked closely with the programming manager to identify opportunities for improvement in the software for our clients and our internal team.
Account Executive
My position here may seem like a step away from the hospitality industry, but the truth is, you are never actually OUT of hospitality. When I joined Tendenci, it was Schipul - The Web Marketing Company. Here, I get to manage web development projects from several industries (most commonly nonprofits and oil & gas). I still use the hospitality skills I've learned in the hotels I've worked at in the past, and I've gotten to grow my account management skills from HospitalityLawyer.com. I started as an assistant account executive, helping out other project managers with their accounts. Soon, I received my own accounts to work on and have successfully launched a number of websites with the help of my team. I've gotten to train the new project managers on best practices and am working towards setting a standard for account management. This is the most unique position I've had, and I thoroughly enjoy my work here. I get to work with awesome clients who truly get to impact the Houston community. We have rebranded to Tendenci, our content management system, to align our corporate identity with our current and future focus.
Director Of Marketing
After meeting with a college professor to discuss recommendations for job opportunities, he ended up hiring me as his director of marketing for his small b2b firm. HospitalityLawyer.com connects the hospitality industry with lawyers. To facilitate this, HospitalityLawyer would hold an annual conference featuring sessions such as food and beverage laws, liability, employment issues, etc. In 2011, HospitalityLawyer launched the Global Travel Risk Management Congress, featuring sessions on contagious diseases, bed bugs, cruise laws, etc. I assisted in the planning and execution of both conferences by attending networking events, maintaining relationships with contacts, managing all aspects of our social media presence (3 twitter accounts, Facebook accounts, 8 newsletters), and coming up with strategic marketing techniques to get the word out. Here, I learned how good I am at managing a few projects at once and maintaining a great relationship with my contacts.
Tourism Intern
This internship was one of the most unique and rewarding experiences I have had. I got to work alongside the international tourism department for Houston, and acted as a guide for a media group from Mexico. With the help of the Deputy Director of Tourism, I created an itinerary for this media group and accompanied them around Houston. It was amazing.
Blog Writer
I have always enjoyed writing, so it was only natural to me to write about travel and hospitality. I consistently turned in blog posts and became the most read blog in the allaboutmexico.com group. My posts focused on tourism attractions and hotels in Cancun. I used my knowledge from working in hotels to provide answers to questions I would hear often (ie, why do hotels overbook?).
