I create a safe, supportive, and positive classroom environment where students feel valued and respected. This would involve establishing clear expectations for behavior and addressing any issues that arise.Communicating with parents is also an important part of my job. I communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed of their child's progress and any issues that arise. This would involve sending newsletters, emails, and other communications, as well as holding parent-teacher conferences.I work closely with other teachers and staff members to coordinate curriculum, plan school events, and address any issues that arise. With Unbound New York as our primary math instruction, I have implemented the Workshop Model to allow my students the ability to showcase what they know in independent practice. As a mentor to my scholars, I have spent countless hours demonstrating and practicing appropriate emotion regulation. I have gained the skills to recognize the needs of my scholars and adapt accordingly. As a lifelong student, I spent each week in "collaborative" meetings with my co-teacher, vice-principal, and instructional coach to collaborate on what practices would be best for our scholars. Each week we spent at least one hour learning a new skill that will help guide our instruction for our scholars. Topics have included: phonemic awareness, phonics, writing, trauma-informed care, Restorative Justice, BIST, Unbound Math, Heggerty, and more. Working closely with my fellow teachers has helped me establish lifelong friendships with my coworkers and recognize the importance of leaning on and learning from my colleagues. Not only did I have the opportunity to assist the lead teachers with various responsibilities in the classroom; I also helped foster emotional development in our young learners while maintaining a trauma-sensitive environment. I worked one-on-one with several scholars who needed additional emotional support. Using the Behavioral Intervention Support Team (BIST) model as the primary course of emotion regulation, we made leaps and bounds with our scholars’ development. As a team we created behavior plans and adapted our schedule to meet the needs of students who needed accommodation. Our team spent our plan time working together to create and recreate academic plans that would best meet the needs of each student in our combined classrooms. Show less

For the 2016-2017 academic year, I substitute taught in the greater Kansas City area. Kelly has allowed me to explore different districts, buildings, and grade levels to expand my educational career and abilities. During the summer of 2017, I was fortunate enough to accept a long-term substitute teaching position with Linden-West Elementary in North Kansas City teaching first graders preparing for second grade.

I worked in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Professional Development department at Oklahoma State University. I helped organize and prepare for classes throughout the summer for Project Lead the Way (PLTW) along with assisting in smooth operation of the Professional Development office.

I was responsible for the integrity and growth of students enrolled in Critical Issues in Human Development and Family Science, and Human Sexuality courses. These responsibilities included grading debate, annotated bibliographies and critical issue papers. I also was a liaison for the professors if they required additional assistance with students.

The skills I obtained at this profession included excellent customer service, time management, strong work ethic and leadership. My responsibilities included working well with my colleagues, guest relations and leading the front of house crew for a successful shift.

During my internship I was responsible for ensuring that every guest that ate at our restaurant had a magical experience. As the internship progressed I was promoted from only seating guests to greeting them and creating a warm welcome. Towards the end of my internship I was promoted again to the more technical side of the restaurant using a computer system to seat the guests and ensure that each guest did not wait long while also making sure the waiters received a fair amount of work.
