About Carly Isabel

Carly Isabel is an American oil painter from Montgomery, AL. She is currently traveling and studying art abroad as she graduated in 2024 for her BFA in Drawing and Painting with an emphasis in Illustration at Laguna College of Art and Design. The inspiration behind her painting’s concepts are derived from literature while her light and color aesthetics originate from nature. Depicting singular scenes instead of the entire story gives control of the narrative to the viewer. Influenced by the Rococo and Romanticism art movements, the subjects in Carly’s paintings are portrayed as a counterpart to the environment. She connects most with her work when her art acts as a placeholder for words.

    Literature holds a unique power to articulate my thoughts and emotions when I struggle to express them myself. The writers who convey such sentiments speak in my language of visual arts. Each of my painting’s processes is influenced by a piece of writing, facilitated by a simple sketch with minimal composition changes, and a direct painting application. Alongside literature, the concepts and effects of light derived from nature holds as a strong visual element in my work. I find that the beauty of reading a painting lies in its ability to evoke multiple, personalized narratives.
