Hello, my name is Carmen Larson, and I am a cybersecurity engineer/developer for NELM (Non Employee Lifecycle Management tool, formally SecZetta). I have been in cybersecurity for a little over 2.5 years. I started out as an intern for a cybersecurity boutique firm right out of high school and gradually transitioned to engineer and now will be starting at a new company as an independent contractor in the role of developer. Cybersecurity is the family business as it was my dad who introduced me to this space. He has been in cyber for almost 9 years with 17 years of IT prior. He now works for a big 4 firm as an Advisory Manager in the cybersecurity department. My mom is also in cyber as an analyst and my 14-year-old brother is studying cybersecurity now along with coding. I enjoy my work and find it challenging as well as rewarding and I look forward to continued growth in my skills and knowledge. I currently hold a Certified in Cybersecurity as well as multiple Certificate of Completions from SailPoint and ForgeRock. I also have an Implementation Partner Certification from SecZetta (which is now NELM). I have been studying the ISC2 SSCP course and hope to take the exam very soon. I also have the goal and intention to get SailPoint Professional Certified. I am constantly learning and trying to better myself and my abilities as an engineer and developer. I have a strong passion and desire to help the neurodiverse community. Both my brother and I are neurodiverse, with my brother being on the Autism Spectrum. I have seen the things he has been able to accomplish with proper therapies and support from his family, teachers and friends. I firmly believe that the neurodiverse are an important part of the cybersecurity community and with better support and education, more can be placed in proper roles and grow. I am also an advocate for more diversity and representation in cybersecurity and I am a member of Women in Cybersecurity and Women in Tech. With more education and training, cybersecurity can be a space that everyone can thrive in.
