Provided medical care, medications, and feeding to clients with dementia within skilled nursing unit. Interface with HIV/AIDS clients to provide education on proper treatment adherence, as well as transmission avoidance. Work with developmentally disabled clients to monitor safety and provide medications and blood sugar testing; promote social interaction through game playing. Conduct in-home training to 10 parents to inject growth hormones or Somavert into children; instructed eight clients in setting up and using meter to monitor INR values through blood testing. Develop therapeutic relationships with clients to empower them to achieve healthcare goals.Accomplishments:• Assessed and medicated 20 clients having dementia or under hospice care, providing feeding assistance, communicating with physicians regarding abnormal vital signs, and completing blood tests prior to discharge. • Ensured ability of family caregivers to give Genotropin or Somavert injections to children in home settings by providing targeted training; instructed CoaguSense or CoaguChek clients in setting up and testing meter and collected blood samples to allow for INR monitoring and reporting. • Contributed significantly to foreign exchange students’ ability to travel safely by assessing, diagnosing, and treating health conditions, placing indwelling urinary catheter into one client and sending another client who was bleeding profusely to ER to check for possible hemorrhaging. • Strengthened operations at McLean Bible Church Access program by providing medical care and respite services to developmentally disabled people, including those with autism and Down’s syndrome. • Developed care plan for 50 clients with HIV/AIDS at county health department to meet medical and mental health needs, educating and encouraging clients in importance of remaining treatment adherent and taking steps to minimize transmission potential. Determined adherence by measuring clients’ CD4+ and viral load.

Observed and assisted Physician Assistant in care of HIV/AIDS clients, facilitating development of therapeutic relationships to encourage adherence to medication requirements and achievement of healthcare goals. Performed vital signs and blood glucose testing. Assisted PA in completing blood tests to determine HIV/AIDS status and pregnancy urine, rapid strep, and dipstick urinalysis tests. Facilitated organization of clients’ medical records. Accomplishments:• Obtained knowledge and confidence in understanding and providing medical treatment for clients with HIV/AIDS, especially importance of maintaining medication regimens and anticipating side effects. Monitored patients’ CD4+ and viral load to determine treatment effectiveness. • Developed ability to confront patients not adhering to medication regimens with skill and compassion, stressing importance of drug therapy to their health.

Volunteer – Chronic Schizophrenic UnitEncouraged clients to reach psychological goals by interacting with each other and participating in team meetings. Monitored patients’ behavior to ensure safety within unit, reporting any agitated clients to security and working to calm clients, including those with psychosis or having hallucinations. Encouraged clients to complete projects. Accomplishments:• Diminished clients’ apprehension regarding team meetings by encouraging them to discuss concerns and by providing support. Attended team meetings to understand issues discussed and promote open discussion. • Generated client conversations to build trust and empower them to meet their psychosocial and healthcare goals.

Conducted research on HIV/AIDS cases in tri-county area in support of Ryan White CARE Act grant requests for medical and social services. Performed data analysis to determine at-risk populations and optimal prevention and treatment services. Created reports and presentations to community-based social service agencies, and contributed to team meetings focused on best ways to identify HIV/AIDS clients and use available resources to meet clients’ needs and develop transmission reduction strategies.Accomplishments:• Identified AIDS cases in tri-county region to support funding requests by analyzing Medicaid, Medicare, and insurance company databases. Efforts enabled county health department to focus resources on most effective HIV/AIDS treatment and transmission prevention interventions. • Strengthened understanding/cooperation among inmate population having HIV/AIDS by conducting research and discharge planning and cultivating case manager network to provide psychosocial support groups. • Supported county health department’s HIV/AIDS identification, treatment, and prevention efforts by using statistical applications to sort clients by various demographic categories, such as risk, race, age, and sex. Published reports and provided targeted presentations regarding HIV/AIDS data to various internal units and community-based organizations.

Led 10-staff research team in designing/executing cost-effectiveness studies, and collaborated with marketing and clinical teams to promote new drugs. Developed cost-effectiveness protocols for inclusion in drug clinical trials.Accomplishments:• Developed outcomes research strategic plan for each drug product, interfacing with medical and marketing teams to determine benefits of including cost-effectiveness studies in drug clinical trials.• Strengthened efforts to market drugs related to prostatic hypertrophy and erectile dysfunction by developing targeted research proposals used in gathering data from clinical trials.• Played critical role in producing data on cost effectiveness of company’s selective estrogen receptor modular (SERM) used in marketing efforts, as well as inclusion in formularies of countries with national healthcare. Developed SERM economic model for Droloxifene to determine economic value of drug. • Promoted benefits of cost-effectiveness protocols and studies within clinical trials by providing presentations to clinical and marketing teams. Cost-effectiveness data helped in marketing drugs in U.S. and other countries.
