About Carol Baaki Diglio, Ed.S. Chrs

WHAT’S WORKING? WHAT’S NOT? HOW DO WE GET THERE? These questions serve as the foundation to transformation, greater accountability and long-term success for my clients. This process also proved invaluable in the identification, implementation and refinement of systems during my 15 years in leadership in the education sector. ►► carol@consultingbydiglio.com◄◄ACCOUNTABILITYI challenge the status quo. I’ve untangled many messes and, in the process, unintentionally ruffled feathers. Nobody likes change. By modeling accountability, I gained buy-in, respect and loyalty from those who initially opposed the adaptive change necessary to drive success. Accountability is a cornerstone of organizational transformation. Without it, leaders’ efficacy suffers as does the organization. With it, leaders empower.I’M FEARLESS.I’ve been confronted with new and big challenges throughout my career. I take a challenge and break it down to manageable actions. I’ve entered positions with no playbook and upon leaving left fully developed systems that ensure long-term success.Playing defense distracts from growth. Many of the organizations I’ve worked with have learned this the hard way. Clients shift to offense with clearly defined systems and processes that improve hiring, retention, succession planning, leadership, crisis management and CULTURE.MY PASSIONEducation is my passion. I love the work I do in the education sector because I know that the institution of education improves when systems are strengthened and aligned. On a micro level, educating others is my passion as well. Education of the client. Education of the team. Education of the individual. Every day clients in all sectors experience my passion and, in turn, improve their leadership and HR functions. How can I serve as a catalyst to impactful change in your organization? After pivoting how I advocate and serve education, I launched my own consulting firm providing services to clients from various sectors including but not limited to education. My passion is for the education system in the United States. Because the bulk of my experience has been in education, I am the ideal partner to work with education organizations on their HR systems, processes, leadership development programs and employee accountability. My background in Human Resources is expansive. I’ve probably seen it all. As a result, companies seek me out to work with them on investigations, compliance, guidance on ethical HR practices, identifying gaps within HR and developing systems designed for the long-term success of the company. Using my THREE BIG QUESTIONS approach, I am able to bring teams together to identify the answers that generate new systems and processes.Additionally, as a leader and executive, I work with high potentials within organizations coaching them one-on-one to position themselves for growth, successfully manage organizational change and lead others through change. Leadership doesn’t happen without action. ACCOUNTABILITY is a crucial aspect of my coaching process and interactions. IMPORTANT NOTE: I have put my business on pause to serve public education again.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS◆ I am proud of the partnership I established in the first month of business with Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) and Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA)◆ I represent MASSP on the State of Michigan Department of Education’s EPI committee and serve on the state’s Secondary Standards Committee.◆ I designed a well-received and in-demand accountability workshop which I have facilitated at companies, with Division I athletes and organizations across SE Michigan.

Assistant Superintendent Of Human Resources

Novi, Mi

I was temporarily assigned for six months, before being hired to this position by the Superintendent because of my track record managing and leading organizations through challenging circumstances and achieving objectives with no excuses. There had been some turnover in the role which had weakened the HR function. The district wanted more transparency in hiring processes as well as refinement to the function of HR. With a $72 million budget and nearly 1000 employees and a student head count of 6,400, my small, but mighty team lead a transformation of Human Resources district-wide. We improved hiring processes, the personnel evaluation process and provided regular opportunities for professional growth via trainings. I developed systems making it easier to ensure compliance with all regulations as well as other systems and processes that supported the continued success of the district which was ranked in the top 5% academically and 25th largest district in the state.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS ◆ I held this position for six months while still principal of Novi High School as the district sought my replacement.◆ Instituted new and improved research-based hiring process that enhanced the level of candidates applying and hired for all positions. ◆ I realigned the HR culture district-wide focusing on high-performance, consistent application of policy, professional development and new policy development that enhanced accountability through clearly defined processes implemented district-wide that improved responsiveness and performance.◆ Led all stakeholders through process of change offering regular training sessions on new policies and gathering stakeholders to assess and evaluate the success of the policies and determine where we could improve.

2013 - 2017 ~4 yrs

Principal

After serving as Assistant Principal, I was appointed by the board to be Principal of 2000+ students with 130 staff and four administrators. I was appointed in July, two months before school started. We were in the midst of the recession and struggling with the reality of massive cuts to our funding. I had five weeks to determine how to transition staff to a six-period day from a 4x4 block, a loss of department leadership, an increase to class sizes and a reduction of staff. All of these changes meant more work with less staff. I did it successfully by engaging the staff in problem-solving, focusing on their strengths and working as a team.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS◆ I led the school to maintain its Michigan Merit Curriculum requirements and national ranking despite very challenging circumstances. Our graduation rate grew to 97% with 84% of graduates attending a four-year university.◆ Established a culture of customer care that provided opportunities for students while managing reductions in staff and the elimination of several school support resources, ◆ I spearheaded the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a sheltered class for English language learners and Operation Graduation to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of all students during a stressful period of tremendous loss and change.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS◆I revamped the master schedule process to include stakeholder voice to maximize opportunities while balancing the Michigan Merit Curriculum, elective courses, Advanced Placement Courses, the requirements for the International Baccalaureate Diplomma Programme, Sheltered Classes for English Language Learners and curriculum for students with Individual Education Plans (IEP) in order to accommodate 2000 students and 24,000 classes.◆I accelerated innovative strategies and interventions for at-risk populations to mitigate truancy and drop out.

2010 - 2013 ~3 yrs

Assistant Principal

Having proven myself as the Dean of Students and Building Operations, I was appointed as Assistant Principal. I supported an environment focused on cross-collaboration in the interest of best serving the academic, emotional and social needs of the student body. My position was a merge of the Dean of Students and Building Operations and Assistant Principals' responsibilities as the dean position was reduced. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS◆I revamped the master schedule process to include stakeholder voice to maximize opportunities while balancing the Michigan Merit Curriculum, elective courses, Advanced Placement Courses, the requirements for the International Baccalaureate Diplomma Programme, Sheltered Classes for English Language Learners and curriculum for students with Individual Education Plans (IEP) in order to accommodate 2000 students and 24,000 classes.◆I accelerated innovative strategies and interventions for at-risk populations to mitigate truancy and drop out.

2007 - 2010 ~3 yrs

Dean Of Students & Building Operations

Novi, Michigan

I had an advanced degree for 10 years before seeking to serve in a leadership role. The school Principal reached out to me and presented the opportunity due to my leadership among the other teachers during my tenure. I cut my leadership teeth in this role. I faced many challenges from day one. I found myself handwriting and hanging up temporary room numbers due to the major expansion of a new wing and remodel that was not complete by the projected Labor Day weekend and school was opening on Tuesday. This position was humbling and shaped me as a leader in so many ways, giving me the clarity to make my role transparent and predictable for everyone. It was the beginning of my love for building clearly defined systems for sustainability and performanceKEY ACHIEVEMENTS◆ Immediately, I faced a new challenge of overseeing the construction of a 156,000 square foot addition to the school to ensure it was completed on time for the start of school. We got it done!◆I led an initiative to improve operations by elevating existing procedures and policies and more clearly defining them to create alignment and ensure compliance with attendance, school health policy, lockers, parking lots, classroom assignments, furniture and building security.
