Improve NIET's strategy and innovation through management of NIET's innovative professional learning services and teams, including those focused on high school redesign, community-informed strategic planning, school environment and SEL, rural education networks, and literacy curriculum implementation. Implement systems to codify learning into more efficient internal operations and more effective products and services.Designed and managed NIET’s character education initiative, called ACED (Accelerating Character Education and Development). Support 75 schools across multiple states, equipping school and district leaders with training, frameworks, tools and coaching to integrate effective character development into school instruction, culture and climate. Collect and analyze data to measure progress towards implementation outputs and partner outcomes revealing 100% of participants in the partnership reporting increased knowledge about character education and development on our end of year survey and 99% reporting the partnership advanced their school’s implementation of character education during the ACED pilot. Expand NIET’s K-12 and state partnerships through grant writing and leading a portfolio of consulting projects supporting district leaders in their strategic planning process (conducting needs assessments, designing stakeholder engagement instruments, analyzing data, and progress monitoring training).Design and implement project management tools, templates, and best practices organization-wide.

Analyzed state level data sets related to college and career access to inform the ways TDOE supported districts with providing career education opportunities. Defined developmentally appropriate expectations and developed explicit guidance and resources for expanded K-8 career awareness and exploration for TN districts.Conducted a comprehensive needs assessment to identify gaps in programmatic offerings available in districts and developed a strategy for ensuring students have access to articulated pathways throughout PK-12. Managed and supported the work of the Career Pathways Summer Governor's Fellow to design a framework for the role of educators in college and career advisement.

Conducted research projects, including RCTs, qualitative research, and descriptive landscape analyses, producing findings that inform major department strategy decisions. Presented research findings to internal programmatic teams and at state and national education conferences, performed data analyses and led strategy meetings to support college and CTE program evaluation.Worked collaboratively with other TN state agencies to support implementation of the P20 Connect research agenda as a member of the P20 Connect Data Governance Committee. Conducted interdepartmental collaborative research projects resulting in greater linkage between K-12, higher education, and health services data. Designed and coordinated a research–practice conference, attended by over 150 participants, that brought together district teams, policy leaders, and a series of external researchers to inform district EPSO decisions with over 90% of participants reporting the conference was a valuable experience for them and in their role.

Taught 54 12th grade students in techniques of persuasive and argumentative writing, as well as supported their development of personal essays as a part of their college application process.Designed AP-aligned writing curriculum that included a writing unit on the topic of school choice. This unit consisted of persuasive essay and argument analysis writing tasks on varying perspectives within the school choice debate and culminated in a Socratic seminar and debate where students practiced College and Career Readiness (CCR) oral communication standards. Unit creatively prepared students for the rigor of post-secondary while providing an opportunity to practice using their voice to address a topic directly impacting them.Provided instructional coaching to first-year teachers which included conducting classroom observations, leading goal setting, planning, and instructional feedback meetings, and tracking teacher growth over time.

Supported a caseload of 24, primarily first-generation high school seniors to and through college graduation by helping them identify and pursue their college and career goals. Met with each student and their family monthly or bi-monthly to guide them through the college application process, support with applications for scholarships and federal/state financial aid, and assist them in determining their best-match school, considering personal, academic, and financial factors.

Chinandega, Nicaragua

Awarded Tinker Field Research Grant by Vanderbilt University’s Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies to conduct research in the Chuscada community in Chinandega, Nicaragua. Conducted interviews with parents, students, teachers, and members of the Chinandega District Ministry of Education in order to identify primary challenges and opportunities for enhanced communication in the Escuela Modelo (Model School) development project and partnership between Amigos for Christ and the Nicaraguan government.

Lwala, Kenya

Conducted research in 13 primary schools through classroom observations and teacher interviews in order to assess the effectiveness and challenges of classroom e-readers in raising student achievement and enhancing the reading culture among 6th grade pupils. Compared findings to similar research conducted by Dr. Carolyn Heinrich in Milwaukee Public Schools resulting in a published manuscript in the British Journal of Educational Technology.

Conducted research by testing, tutoring, and collecting data on 6 students, 3 times per week, to identify impact of a second grade math intervention on academic improvement of low-performing students.

Taught English 1 course to 77 9th grade students. Developed rigorous, innovative, Common Core aligned curriculum including year long pacing plans, unit plans, lesson plans and assessment benchmarks. Achieved the highest documented reading gains within KIPP network on NWEA MAP with 80% of students meeting tiered growth and 74% meeting magnitude of growth targets. Led students to 88% proficiency (58% proficient; 30% advanced) on English I EOC against a district average of 62% proficiency (55%proficient; 7% advanced).Collaborated with school leaders to develop systems of remediation, parent communication, student ownership, and school culture.Designed quarterly AP-aligned interim assessments for 9th and 10th grade literature classes to help teachers measure student growth and mastery during 2015-2016 school year.Co-founded KIPP Nashville Collegiate High School's women's and men's soccer teams.

Taught 7th grade English to 165 students at YES Prep North Central. Analyzed student data to implement remediation action plans. Collaborated with a team teacher to develop a rigorous, combined reading and writing curriculum. Led 28% of students to assessment benchmark scores above their projected SAF scores, compared with only 20% of students in the entire district. By the end of my second year, my students outperformed the expected district level scores on their system-wide tests by 6%.Spearheaded 7th grade culture initiative as Family Gathering Leader by organizing weekly culture-building activities/ student leadership opportunities. As the Middle School Girls' Soccer Coach, I motivated and intensively trained 25 student athletes to prepare and compete against other local Houston teams, coordinated bi-weekly soccer practices and games, and helped my players develop team and leadership skills.Developed as a leader in the struggle for educational equity by participating in workshops, seminars and modules on diversity, culturally responsive teaching methodology, and instruction.
