Strategic Adviser for the public sector in Northern Ireland specialising in infrastructure and innovative finance.I began my career training as a Chartered Accountant in a Big 4 accountancy firm, primarily responsible for management consultancy including business cases, evaluations, value for money assessments, cost benefits analyses and economic advice. My quantitative and qualitative research skills were further honed through experience in a small Belfast-based consultancy practice. Working in private practice enabled me to gain a wide range of experience working across many sectors (health, economic development, education, tourism, sports and leisure etc.) for a large number of different organisations across both central and local government as well as for private clients. In 2018 I began working as an Associate Adviser for the Strategic Investment Board before securing my current role as Commercial Investment and Risk Management Adviser in 2023.Notable achievements have included approval of a range of business cases and evaluations for debt and equity funds as well as strategic support for the commercial development and ongoing risk management assurance and monitoring of such funds to enable greater financial sustainability and private leverage for the public sector.I have played a central role in the development of the Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland, engaging across the whole of the NI Civil Service and with industry stakeholders. This has given me a unique understanding of the investment and infrastructure needs, opportunities and challenges across the public estate and asset base.Pragmatic and positive governance is important to me and I have recently participated in the Boardroom Apprentice NI scheme to gain valuable experience serving on a charitable board, to supplement my professional experience of working with public boards.
