I am passionate about libraries and the work we do to build community, inspire learning and support research and creativity. As a former school teacher, reading aloud to my students was the bright spot in my day. Some of my favorite memories include reading these books to my students: The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson, The BFG by Roald Dahl, The Forgotten Door by Alexander Key, and Homesick by Jean Fritz. My high school library experience allowed me to develop technology and advocacy skills. I worked with classroom teachers to integrate technology, picture books and young adult literature into the curriculum. Academic librarianship introduced me to the joy of working with adult learners. For many college students, the campus library is overwhelming and under utilized. I've made it my mission to demystify library services, improve library spaces and make collections accessible. My most proud accomplishments have been initiatives and projects that require deep collaboration with non-library partners. Current interests and projects include: educating my campus about open access and open education resources (OER), demonstrating the value of librarians in support of teaching and research, attracting new voices and diverse perspectives to librarianship, and local community engagement. As a library director, I'm committed to leadership and professional development for myself and my team members. I strive to cultivate a positive work culture and an organization that values learning.
