As the Accounting Manager for TechTown Detroit, I monitor and evaluate expenses to ensure the reliability, timeliness, and accuracy of all financial metrics. I work closely with department heads and seek to explore how the finance function can support the organization's program operations. Before joining TechTown, I spent over 20 years at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse as the Controller. During my tenure there, I led the transition to several new software systems starting from the research phase up to a successful implementation. I'm passionate about leading transitions for new software and enjoy researching new systems by interviewing companies and researching every facet to determine the best fit for my organization. I excel at leading software transitions by following best practices of running parallel software to ensure accurate data and guiding employees through the sometimes-challenging process of learning to use the new system. I lead the team with confidence while letting everyone know change is good and that upgrading our software will only lead to improved workflow. I have always found when making considerable software or system changes that it's critical to have employee buy-in during the transition period. I like to help my staff feel comfortable with change by leading the way with confidence, and reminding everyone we are in this together, whether the challenge is running parallel software, training on the new system, or educating ourselves on a different way of doing things. I am professionally curious and have a passion for pursuing continuous learning in my field. I'm always on the lookout, not just for ways to improve my own performance, but to increase efficiency for the organization. Through my innovation and dedication, I helped TechTown to find creative solutions and remain stable during a transition period for the finance team. Further, I tend to ask the type of questions that stimulate new ways of thinking or encourage others to view issues from a different perspective. I like to think of innovative ways to problem solve, and I like to approach problem-solving from different angles and take others’ perspectives into account.
