Mechanical Engineer Volunteer
During my time volunteering for PSAS I worked on a few simple CAD projects for the OreSat team. The OreSat0, OreSat1, and OreSat3 are small educational satellites launched to study cirrus clouds. My first project was to upscale and modify the 0-gravity drop testing apparatus. This apparatus allowed the In-Person OreSAT teams to demenostrate that the antennas on the satellite would correctly deploy in 0-gravity.
Alumnus Of Western Aerospace Scholars Program
In partnership with NASA and Boeing.Western Aerospace Scholars (WAS) is a rigorous and competitive educational program that uses human space exploration as the mechanism to inspire and encourage participants to consider educational and career pathways in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The WAS program is divided into two components: a five-month online distance learning curriculum (developed in partnership with NASA and the University of Washington) and a six-day summer residency experience. In 2020, the summer residency was transformed into a virtual experience in which qualified students were assigned the task of collaboratively designing a future human mission to Mars. I was one of 40 scholars in the state of Oregon who qualified to participate in the WAS virtual Summer Experience. I worked as a member of the Living There team and was responsible for communication, designing the habitat, and developing a suitable solution of travel for vital assets as part of my team’s element of the first human mission to Mars.
