I currently serve as an in-house lawyer at Sandia National Laboratories, a multi-mission laboratory delivering essential science and technology in the interest of national security. In my career, my focus has primarily been on employment law. In addition to managing litigation in employment and commercial matters, I have expertise in leading dispute resolution efforts, providing training on a range of topics, and solving, or better yet, preventing problems through counseling on a breadth of subjects, including state and federal wage and hour compliance, workplace investigations, performance management and terminations, privacy, drug testing, accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and compliance with the Family Medical Leave Act. Early in my career, I worked at top tier law firms and handled litigation matters in a variety of areas including employment, real estate, banking, and Section 1983 civil rights. My clients included both large and small businesses involved in manufacturing, banking, insurance, and government. I also devoted 18 years in-house at one of the country’s largest multi-state healthcare companies, where I was responsible for a wide breath of employment and commercial litigation matters. In recent years, I have expanded my skill set outside that of a traditional corporate lawyer. I taught a popular Employment Law graduate-level class in Southern Methodist University’s Dispute Resolution Program. I enjoyed not only teaching the principles of employment law but also developing classroom exercises to explore the nature of conflict in the workplace and best practices to resolve disputes. I am also a stand up comedian. I enjoy making fun of myself and the situations I find myself in rather than making jokes at others’ expense. My other personal interests include international travel, art history, improv comedy, and walking anywhere outdoors.
