Caryn Cavanagh is the Director of Professional Learning and Curriculum at Resources for Learning (RFL). Caryn’s areas of expertise include literacy; educational leadership; curriculum development; building instructional capacity through professional learning; grant management; data analysis to inform instruction and strategic planning, project management of large, statewide initiatives; stakeholder engagement and collaboration; standards-based instruction; research-based strategies; family engagement; and meeting the needs of diverse learners, including special needs students, English learners, and gifted and talented students.Prior to joining the RFL team in January 2012, Caryn worked in a large, urban district for 15 years as an elementary teacher, a district literacy coach, a supervisor of middle school literacy/federal grant program manager, and a middle school vice principal. In her administrative roles, Caryn successfully launched, directed, and managed large scale education projects by demonstrating management skills such as planning, scheduling, organizing, and tracking progress, ensuring the feasibility of the projects and their objectives; established extensive training programs and presented both content and results to professional staff, community stakeholders, the United States Department of Education, university curriculum partners, and various research organizations; monitored and cultivated the instructional program of teachers to maximize student achievement; and consulted with students to evaluate progress and measure attainment of academic and personal goals.
